Why TikTok is judged by views
The For You feed shows your videos to people who don't follow you, so followers are a poor yardstick. Interaction per view is the fairer read, and it's the first number the calculator gives you once you add views.
Views, not followers
A video can reach many times your follower count. Dividing by views asks how many of the people who actually watched did something.
Shares and saves
They tend to signal stronger intent than a like. If you can see them in your analytics, include them.
The outlier effect
A single breakout video inflates views and can swing the rate either way. Average several videos, not your best one.
Sponsored against native
Brand-led videos often land differently from your own. Calculate them separately before you quote either to a brand.
Reference points
Rough markers from published benchmarks, cited in our engagement rate formula guide. A rate by views and a rate by followers are different numbers, so compare each with accounts of a similar size.
The full formula, with worked examples, is in the engagement rate formula guide.

- 4% to 8%Typical for creators under 10,000 followers, measured against followers.

TikTok engagement rate questions
Add the likes, comments, shares and saves on a video, divide by its views, then multiply by 100. For a whole profile, divide the combined interactions on your last 20 videos by their combined views, so one viral clip doesn't skew it.
Views is the usual read, because the For You feed pushes videos well past your own followers. Followers still matter to brands checking a profile, which is why this calculator shows both. Don't compare a views rate with a followers rate.
As rough markers, the broad TikTok average across industries was about 1.5% in March 2025, and creators under 10,000 followers often sit around 4% to 8% when measured against followers. Treat both as markers, not a pass mark.
In your analytics on a creator or business account, per video. Likes and comments show on the video itself. If you can't see saves and shares, leave that box empty.
It helps your case. A video that earns interaction per view is the kind brands want to put spend behind. Paid usage is priced on top of your base fee, so check the creator rate calculator for the band before you quote.
